Xigera Safari Lodge
Xigera Safari Lodge is a bold expression of contemporary African aesthetics and hospitality, located in a remote corner of the Moremi Game Reserve. Set on a beautiful island in the heart of Botswana's most wildlife-rich ecosystem, Xigera is a feast for the senses, and the perfect setting from which to imbibe the grandeur of the Okavango Delta.
The 11,000 acre Xigera private concession features a diverse combination of permanent channels, wooded islands, and seasonal floodplains, a mosaic that provides ideal habitat for a range of terrestrial and aquatic wildlife species. The area teems with red lechwe, and is rich in plains game and birdlife, while lion and leopard move between the islands, ambushing prey in the long grass and forests. When the annual flood recedes, herds of buffalo move into the area to take advantage of the lush floodplains.
The lodge is nestled beneath an impressive canopy of ancient jackalberry and leadwood trees, and features gently undulating architecture, scorched timber cladding tented interiors, and bold design that creates a vibrant reflection of the surrounding landscape. All furnishings, surfaces and objects have been hand-crafted with exquisite attention to detail. The main area boasts a living and dining room with open fireplace, bar, wine cellar, air conditioned library, traditional boma, a star deck, swimming pool, well-equipped gym, serene spa and wellness center.
At “sundowner” time enjoy expertly mixed cocktails or craft gins created with botanicals foraged from the surrounding wilderness. Dining is a notable affair at Xigera with signature locally-inspired dishes and their accompanying wines being served in a variety of al fresco venues. A flexible ‘Anything, Anytime’ approach to dining ensures a bespoke experience.
Guests are accommodated in twelve individually designed spacious air-conditioned suites, each raised off the ground on stilts, which allows for superb views over the floodplains. Features include a dressing room, inter-leading sitting room, and private deck with outdoor gazebo. The hand-crafted theme continues with unique furnishings and artwork creating layers of color and texture, including carved walnut four-poster beds draped in hand-loomed throws created exclusively for each room. Spacious bathrooms offer both indoor and outdoor showers, with freestanding soaking tubs overlooking the Okavango.
For those seeking a deeper experience in nature a private stay in Xigera’s sculptural treehouse can be arranged. Nestled among a cluster of indigenous Croton trees two miles from the lodge, the structure, built in the evocative shape of a baobab tree, rises 30 feet above the floodplain, offering expansive panoramic views from each of its three levels.
Depending on flood levels, Xigera offers both land and water-based activities. Mokoro rides in glass-bottomed canoes are a highlight, and provide the most silent and peaceful way of experiencing this miraculous oasis in the heart of the Kalahari Desert. Boat rides allow more expansive exploration of the beauty and ecological diversity of the Delta's channels and floodplains, while game-drives and walking safaris provide access to the concession's abundant terrestrial wildlife.
Xigera Safari Lodge is a masterpiece of African creativity with a privileged location on one of the most prized concessions in the Moremi Game Reserve. The exquisite, hand-crafted lodge passionately reflects the vibrance and vitality of the Okavango Delta, and the five-to-one ratio of staff to guests ensures unrivalled hospitality and attention to detail, proving that style and sophistication can be perfectly at home in one of the world's most untamed tracts of wilderness.
