Madikwe ReserveThe Madikwe Reserve comprises almost 200,000 acres of wild African bush on the border between South Africa and Botswana. The reserve lies in a transition zone between savanna bushveld and Kalahari sandveld, and is home to an impressive diversity of wildlife, including the 'Big Five' (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo), cheetah, wild dog, and most other high profile bushveld species. In addition, Madikwe is home to several species commonly associated with the Kalahari, such as ostrich, brown hyena, oryx, and springbuck. Madikwe is a short 45 minute flight (or four hour drive) from Johannesburg, making it one of South Africa's most accessible big game safari destinations. It is located in a malaria-free area, making it an excellent choice for families with young children. The diversity of habitat and species also makes this a very worthwhile combination with the private game reserves adjoining the Kruger National Park, or a luxurious ending to a Botswana tented safari. | | Share |
