Namibia has received much-needed rainfall this month, revitalizing the landscape and replenishing vital water sources.

While this is largely positive for the region's ecosystems and wildlife, the Kunene River has risen significantly, temporarily impacting operations at Serra Cafema Camp, forcing its closure as staff undertakes repairs.

Sadly, this impacted our family's upcoming Namibian adventure. While we missed visiting Serra Cafema and all its exciting activities, we enjoyed an exciting foray into the Etosha Heights Private Reserve, where we were graciously hosted at Safarihoek.

Other stops on our Namibian adventure included Little Kulala Lodge, where we explored the dune belt and our boys climbed Big Daddy. Next, we ventured to Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp, with its fascinating desert-adapted wildlife and spectacular other-worldly landscape. Due to the flooding, our journey to the Skeleton Coast was by aircraft. We disembarked at the coast and enjoyed visiting the seal colony, shipwreck, and lunch overlooking the Atlantic. Finally, our stop at Safarihoek yielded excellent black rhino sitings, a monitor lizard, elephant and a pride of 10 lion!

A wonderful time was had by all as we resonated with Karen Blixen's sentiments:  "There is something about safari life that makes you forget all your sorrows and feel as if you had drunk half a bottle of champagne – bubbling over with heartfelt gratitude for being alive."
