Conservation Camps for 80 children in Rwanda

Eighty young learners from six schools in Rwanda's Kinigi area were hosted on two very successful four-day Conservation Camps in August, in partnership with Children in the WildernessConservation Heritage-Turambe, the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International and Muhisimbi Voice of Youth in Conservation. During workshops and field trips, the students learned about gorilla behavior and ecology, the national parks of Rwanda, threats to biodiversity and the necessary actions to help protect it.

Lion Bomas in Zimbabwe

For a donation of $2,000 guests at Bumi Hills Safari Lodge can help build a lion boma in the Mola community in Zimbabwe. The Lion Bomas aim to curtail human-wildlife conflict by protecting the community's livestock from predators. A heavy cloth is used to cover livestock kraals at night so lions are unable to see the animals and attack them. By protecting the community's livestock from predators, conflict is reduced and wildlife is protected - a win/win for all.

South Luangwa's Wild Dogs

During the past denning season, South Luangwa's wild dog packs in Zambia produced a number of new pups, which are now being seen regularly as they join the adults in their normal daily activities. With a population of over 200 dogs, South Luangwa now has one of the continent's highest densities of these endangered carnivores. The dogs can be seen from properties such as ChindeniBilimungwe BushcampMchenga Camp and Chinzombo Camp.

Health Insurance for Rwandan Communities

Thanks to donations from guests who have visited Bisate and Sabyinyo Camps, as well as the Gishwati Forest area, Children in the Wilderness Rwanda was able to assist 767 households in 46 neighboring villages with their annual Mutuelle Premium Insurance policies. As part of Wilderness Rwanda's ongoing commitment to ensuring communities realize the benefits of conservation tourism, families in need were identified and assisted.
