The Summer Season is upon us
1/31/2024

Across safari Africa sporadic rains are falling onto the plains, swamps, forests and lakes, rivers are rising, and a green-flush blankets the landscape, depicting summer's arrival and setting the scene for various migration patterns.

In Botswana, wild dogs and their puppies keep onlookers on the edge of their seats at Duba Plains Camp, as large herds of elephants "float" across the savanna at Selinda Camp. In the Kalahari Desert the zebra are arriving at Nxai Pan, which supports a wide variety of wildlife, such as Kalahari black-maned lions. This spectacle can also be experienced from more permanent establishments, such as Jack's Camp in the Makgadikadi Salt Pans.

Summer is a magical time to be in Africa, a photographer's dream with verdant landscapes supporting abundant wildlife. The saying "Don't wait for the storm to pass; learn to dance in the rain," is apropos. One will not want to miss a moment of nature's miraculous transformation at this special time of year.
