Project Rewild Zambezi - Update

After introducing the project in the last edition of Classic Africa News, we're very pleased to report that Project Rewild Zambezi is off to a great start, with 101 elephants and 148 impala having been successfully translocated! Click here for a short video of the process (warning: some of the footage is quite intense). 

The first group of 101 elephants was captured, moved, and released by family herds, with a 100% success rate. Once released, the animals remain under close monitoring with both aerial and ground support, and regional anti-poaching units. The success of this year's operations has laid the groundwork for the much larger movement of wildlife in 2023. 

Translocations for 2022 are now complete, and will resume in next year's dry season – a narrow time window exists with optimal weather, water availability and vegetation density to maximize success rates. Classic Africa has secured space at Tembo Plains Camp for four nights over a timeframe when major translocations are planned – June 22 to 26, 2023.
