Mombo - The Next Chapter
8/18/2017

Wilderness Safaris has commenced its fourth generation of managing the famous Mombo Concession at the tip of Chief's Island, Botswana, with a complete rebuild of both Mombo and Little Mombo Camps, set to reopen by early 2018. In the meantime, guests continue to enjoy the spectacular Mombo Concession at Mombo Trails Camp.

The new Mombo and Little Mombo will have almost exactly the same footprints as previously. Each tent is being built in the same spot as the one before, with very little expansion sideways and just an increase in depth out towards the floodplain – to facilitate a pool deck. The style will be traditional and familiar, but will meet the highest standards of "sustainable luxury."
The productive habitat of the Mombo Concession offers arguably the best big game viewing in southern Africa. Spectacular numbers of plains game – like zebra, red lechwe, impala, giraffe, warthog, wildebeest, kudu, elephant and buffalo – mean that predators are abundant, with especially high densities of lion, giggling clans of spotted hyaena, and exceptional leopard sightings.

It is here, in this special place, that Wilderness initiated and continues in one of the company's greatest conservation achievements – the return of black and white rhino to the wilds of Botswana.
The Mombo story is one filled with legendary people and wildlife, and we are excited to welcome the new "old" Mombo and Little Mombo back into our portfolio soon.
