Okavango Delta becomes UNESCO World Heritage Site

The UNESCO World Heritage List - featuring the world’s most extraordinary places - has added the Okavango Delta in Botswana as its 1000th entry. The world’s largest inland delta has a unique characteristic whereby the annual flooding from the Okavango River occurs during the dry season. The native plants and animals have synchronized their biological cycles with these seasonal rains and floods, resulting in a vital, pristine wilderness, teeming with wildlife year round. Those who visit this magnificent anomaly quickly understand why the Delta is referred to as the “jewel of the Kalahari.”
