South Africa is ablaze with flowers at this time of year. White arums bloom under new oak leaves in the Cape Winelands, the northern Limpopo's nocturnal baobabs' are blooming by moonlight, Gauteng's Jacaranda trees are awash in purple and most dramatic of all - Namaqualand in the Cape's west coast dons a wildflower coat of myriad colors. Namaqualand is a semi-desert environment yet, after the winter rainfall (July-September), hidden bulbs erupt into a resplendent floral carpet for a brief and breathtaking show.
