Sighting of the Quarter

African Bushcamps (Somalisa, Lolebezi) recently completed its annual training program for its guides. The training encompasses a wide range of essential skills, from tracking and shooting, to astronomy and plant identification, with a particular emphasis on safely approaching elephants and other wildlife on foot. Senior guides lead walks, sharing their vast knowledge and passing down wisdom from generation to generation.

During the training program, the guides encountered an African rock python that captured a yellow-billed kite in a deadly embrace. An intense struggle unfolded for over two hours and when they later returned to the scene, the python had swallowed the bird whole!
While many profess an aversion to snakes, and they are a highly unlikely sighting on safari, they play an essential role in maintaining ecosystem balance by controlling populations of pests and small animals.
