Angama Mara – Out of Africa
Over the past couple of months Angama Mara has been profiled in media across the globe - on the cover of VISI Magazine, headlining an article in the New York Times, and featured in "Room with a View" in Condé Nast Traveller. Angama Mara is where many scenes in Merchant Ivory's were filmed.
Inspired by the Swahili word for 'suspended in mid-air", the lodge is located high above the floor of Africa's Great Rift Valley, overlooking Kenya's famous Masai Mara. The architecturally dramatic guest areas were inspired by Nairobi's Muthaiga Club, famously featured in Out of Africa.

The lodge consists of two intimate camps, each with fifteen tented suites. Days are as action-packed or as gentle as guests choose them to be. The Mara Triangle is a mere 25-minute drive from the lodge, and guests can experience hot air ballooning, walking, cultural visits to Masai villages – or simply do nothing at all.
The perfect proposal at Wolwedans Dune Camp
"He's one of Britain's best-loved TV wildlife presenters, so it's not surprising that when Steve Backshall proposed to his girlfriend – Olympic champion rower Helen Glover – he chose as his backdrop one of the greatest natural wonders of the world." – Hello! Magazine

When Steve Backshall whisked his girlfriend, Helen Glover away to Wolwedans Dune Camp in Namibia for two weeks, she had an inkling that he was up to something. For weeks Steve had been planning everything down to the tiniest detail, including measuring Helen's finger while she was sleeping to make sure that he got the right size ring! The staff at Wolwedans were all involved in keeping the secret and on the second day of their stay their guide, Cecilia, took them out for a game drive that was sure to change their lives forever. Under the guise of wanting to watch the sunset from a special view point, Steve asked Cecilia to park the car and the couple walked off to a secluded dune. Timing it to perfection, as the African sun began to dip behind the huge sand dunes, Steve got down on one knee and popped the question, which was met with an enthusiastic, yes!
