Tina McCurdy - "12 Months of Travel and Art"

Tina McCurdy is not only a friend of Classic Africa, working freelance for us on creative projects, but a notable artist! This Rhode Island School of Design graduate travelled for 12 months (November 2021 to October 2022) on many adventures internationally and here in the states. She worked on design projects remotely and continued to sketch/paint flora and fauna wherever she traveled. In December 2022, she held a solo art exhibition aptly named "12 Months of Travel and Art." Several of the pieces were influenced by past Classic Africa projects (brochures, office photo installation, newsletters, and website). Even though Tina has yet to explore the continent in person, Africa's plants and animals emerged from her pencil and brush to create beautiful works of art.

The specific pieces exhibited, and now offered for sale, include a lemur and giraffe, both 15: x 36" (acrylic on canvas), a whale (15" x 36" acrylic on velvet), a Kudu (24" x 38" acrylic on panel in a vintage federal-style frame), a Zebra (10" x 10" colored pencil on archival paper), a gorilla and a whale (both 2" x 2" acrylic on mini canvas). There are also Elephants in various sizes painted with acrylic on vintage roof slate (which reminds the artist of elephant skin), a crocodile (10" x 48" acrylic on vintage barn wood), and several pencil drawings of safari animals in graphite on archival paper.

Tina's next exhibition is a group show with 11 female artists at Hygienic Art Gallery, New London, Connecticut; April 29-May 20, 2023 (opening reception: April 29).
