Welcome Sitatunga Private Island
Great Plains is excited to introduce its new and unique "water camp," Sitatunga Private Island. After nearly three years of design and planning and 10 months of building, Sitatunga will serve as a model camp in sustainability, community enrichment and guest experience.
The camp exudes a "Robinson Crusoe, desert island-ish" feel, designed with rustic salvaged materials, combined with giant basket shapes, as a nod to the Bayei and other local Okavango fishing ancestries.
Each suite, complete with its own sitting area and plunge pool, is set high in the ebony trees, a traditional way to ensure safety from predators, take advantage of the views, and rest in the cool shade. Vintage Persian carpets, trade beads and flowing silk curtains complete the interiors. Each suite has a complimentary use professional camera and lens set, as well as high-quality binoculars. Personally curated cuisine is a highlight and pays homage to Botswana's river people and their style of dining.
Sitatunga Private Island is one of the few locations where one can view the rare aquatic antelope from camp and by boat, which is the main activity offered, in addition to walking safaris to experience the Delta's diverse wildlife from close range.
