Sighting of the Quarter

A rare and unique melanistic zebra foal was spotted in the Masaai Mara last month, which has caused quite a stir globally. It is unusual for animals with this genetic mutation to survive for long as their distinctive coloration makes them stand out from the herd and they are a target for lion predation. ​

A Masaai guide discovered the one-of-a-kind genetically mutated baby zebra in the Masaai Mara and named it after his surname - Tira. Tira has patterns that appear as polka dots, without a stripe in sight.
