South Africa's Winter Wonderland
7/1/2009
During August and September, seemingly
overnight, the dusty valleys of South Africa's West Coast and Namaqualand are transformed into a botanical wonderland, carpeted with wildflowers. With its winter rainfall, Namaqualand is home to the richest bulb flora of any arid region in the world. The luxurious Bushmans Kloof Lodge(Relais & Chateaux) is set within a South African Natural Heritage Site, part of the Cederberg Wilderness Area, and is the perfect base from which to explore the area's botanical treasures, including over 755 indigenous plant species spread over three biomes: dry mountain fynbos, succulent Karoo and mountain forest.
