Bushmen in Residence
Twenty-four Bushmen comprising four generations now reside in the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans of the Kalahari Desert, and regularly share their sophisticated environmental knowledge and rich cultural mores with guests at Jack's Camp and San Camp. The Bushmen lead a semi-traditional lifestyle, and elucidate their hunting and food-gathering skills as well as their techniques for making tools and jewelry. They captivate with their penchant for story-telling, singing and dancing, and divulge how they treat physical, psychological and spiritual maladies through the help and consultation of powerful healers. This interaction provides a rare glimpse into the Bushmens' vanishing traditions, without attempting to freeze the evolving culture in time.
