The Soccer World Cup

For the first time in history an African country will host the world's largest sporting event. The 2010 Soccer World Cup will take place in South Africa between June 11 and July 11 2010. Well over a billion people are expected to follow the month long final tournament among the world's top 32 soccer playing nations.

Matches will take place in the following cities: Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town, Pretoria, Port Elizabeth, Bloemfontein, Polokwane, Nelspruit and Rustenburg. Five new venues have been constructed for the tournament, and the others have been significantly upgraded.

In addition to new and improved stadia, South Africa has also vastly upgraded its current public transport infrastructure within the various host cities, as well as its security services. These developments will have positive implications for all travelers passing through or visiting South Africa's urban centers for years to come.
