Exploring Mozambique

Mozambique is justly famous for its long, palm-fringed beaches with fine white powdery sand, shady mangrove forests, freshwater lagoons, turquoise waters, and pristine coral reefs.

The islands that comprise the Bazaruto archipelago and the Quirimbas archipelago are considered pristine marine environments, largely unexplored, with only a few remote lodges. Scuba-diving in Mozambique is a highlight, with shallow reefs that protect a kaleidoscope of neon-bright clownfish, angelfish, moorish idols and lionfish. Further out, the coral reefs harbor rays, sharks and turtles, while the rich waters of the deep Mozambique Channel are the territory of harmless whale sharks, spectacular game-fish, whales, dolphins and a population of rare dugongs (sea-cows).
