Sample 8: "The Real Africa" - On Safari in Zambia

Day 1

Upon arrival at Johannesburg International Airport you will be met by a representative of our local partners and assisted to your scheduled flight to Livingstone. You will be met at Livingstone Airport and transferred by vehicle to Toka Leya Camp.

Days 1-3

Spend two nights at Toka Leya in a Tented Room, on a fully inclusive basis (Including accommodation, 3 meals daily, local alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, laundry, 2 activities per day includeing a river cruise, a game drive into the Park, a tour of the Zambian side of the Falls, a tour of Livingstone town and museum and a visit to a nearby village and local curio shops).

Day 2

This afternoon you will enjoy an elephant back safari in the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park.

The trail begins on the banks of the Zambezi River. After a short safety briefing guests are introduced to the elephants and their handlers before mounting the great animals. The handler and no more than two guests on each animal then head off through the riverine bush, crossing the river in shallow water to get onto the islands.
 
Halfway through the ride guests will dismount and interact with the elephants on the ground. The guides facilitate the interaction and provide interesting background information and insights regarding African Elephants and their relationship with humans. The excursion is roughly four hours in duration and includes refreshments. 

Day 3

Today you will be transferred by vehicle to Livingstone Airport. You will be met and transferred by light charter aircraft to Lusaka, from where you will connect to Mfuwe Airport. From Mfuwe Airport it is a game-drive transfer to Puku Ridge Tented Camp.

Days 3-5

Spend two nights at Puku Ridge Camp in a Tented Room, on a fully inclusive basis (including accommodation, all meals, drinks, game -viewing activities, laundry, and the services of a professional guide).

Day 5

Today you will be collected from Puku Ridge Camp and transferred by game drive transfer to Kalamu Lagoon Camp (roughly three hours transfer time) for the start of the Kalamu Walking Trail.

Wild and remote, the legendary South Luangwa National Park is sustained by the waters of the Luangwa River, an impressive watercourse that supports high densities of game along its banks.
 
The area is perhaps even better known for the role it has played in the development of the walking safari. Continuing in this tradition, Kalamu Trails allows safari goers the opportunity to experience the thrill, majesty and pristine nature of the Luangwa wilderness on foot.
 
Herds of elephant and buffalo, as well as dominant antelope species such as impala and puku are often seen. Other antelope include common waterbuck, bushbuck, eland, kudu, grysbok, oribi, reedbuck, Lichtenstein's hartebeest, sable and roan. Species such as Thornicroft's giraffe and Cookson's wildebeest occur nowhere else in the world and the area's leopard viewing is legendary.
 
Guests spend one night at Kalamu Lagoon Camp (a luxury permanent tented camp) before going on to explore the untouched northern banks of the Luangwa River on foot, overnighting at the unique Kalamu Star-bed Camp (consisting of three timber platforms, raised 10 feet above the ground, with beds under mosquito nets and the stars for a roof!) and Chinengwe Riverbed Camp (comprising three dome-style tents erected right on the edge of the Luangwa River). This pristine area, in a remote and wild corner of the park, offers an unforgettable journey into pure wilderness.

Days 5-8

Spend three nights on the Kalamu Walking Trail, on a fully inclusive basis (including accommodation, all meals, drinks, game -viewing activities, laundry, and the services of a professional guide).

Day 8

Today you will be transferred by light charter aircraft to Mfuwe. From Mfuwe you will be transferred by light charter aircraft to Lusaka, connecting to Jeki Airstrip. From Jeki you will then be transferred by game-drive vehicle to Sausage Tree Camp.

Day 8-11

Spend three nights at Sausage Tree Camp in a Tented Room, on a fully inclusive basis (including accommodation, all meals, drinks, game -viewing activities, laundry, and the services of a professional guide).

Day 11

Today you will be collected from Sausage Tree Camp and transferred by game-drive vehicle to Jeki Airstrip (one hour). From Jeki you will be transferred by light charter aircraft to Lusaka International Airport, where you will check in for your scheduled flight to Johannesburg.
