Day 1
Arrive Cape Town International Airport under your own arrangements. You will be met by a representative of our local partners and transferred by private vehicle to the Cape Heritage Hotel.
Days 1-4
Spend three nights at the Cape Heritage Hotel in a Luxury Room, with breakfast included.
Day 2
This morning you will make your way to the ferry departure point for Robben Island, from where you will enjoy a scheduled tour of Robben Island.
Make your way to the Robben Island ferry departure point at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. The ferry takes approximately 25 minutes to reach the Island, located in Table Bay. This World Heritage site is one of the most symbolically significant landmarks in South Africa.
On arrival, you will be met by a specialist Robben Island guide (some of whom are ex-political prisoners who know the penitentiary intimately). The 3 ½ hour fully guided tour includes a visit to the prison block, the limestone quarry, where many of the prisoners worked for a number of years, and a drive around the island offering breathtaking views of the city across the bay. There is an African Penguin colony on the island as well as some antelope species. After the tour you will board the ferry back to the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront.
This afternoon you will be collected for a private half day tour of the City of Cape Town, with entrance fees included.
The tour begins with a drive through the city via the Bo-Kaap, or Cape Malay Quarter (so named for those peoples exiled to the Cape from the Dutch colonies).
Leave the vehicle for an historical meander through the Company Gardens, the original fresh produce garden for visiting ships and locals from the mid 17th Century and today, home to the South Africa Museum, Cultural History Museum, Houses of Parliament, National Gallery and St George’s Cathedral. Stroll through the city to Greenmarket Square, with its bustling market stalls.
You will then be driven to Cape Town's Castle, the oldest building in South Africa with its collection of antique Cape paintings and take in the Grand Parade where Nelson Mandela addressed the nation upon his release in 1990.
Move on to the District Six Museum to view a moving collection of stories, pictures and memorabilia highlighting the colorful life of this suburb, which now stands empty due to the destruction of homes and forced removal of residents at the height of the Apartheid era.
Day 3
Today you will be collected for a full day private tour of the Cape Peninsula and Table Mountain, with lunch and entrance fees included.
The tour begins with a scenic drive along the Atlantic Seaboard coast passing the seaside suburbs of Sea Point, Bantry Bay and Clifton. You will stop along the way to enjoy magnificent views of the Twelve Apostles along the Atlantic coast side of Table Mountain, and the beach of Camps Bay. Continue to Hout Bay, a charming little village and fishing harbour.
Departing Hout Bay, the drive continues along one of the finest scenic coastal drives the in world, over the famous Chapman's Peak Drive, and down to the snow-white sands of Noordhoek Beach.
The tour continues on to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve where your guide will drive off the main road to the untouched area of Olifants Bay. There is a herd of endemic Bontebok living on this side of the reserve and you may see them on the beach and in the surrounding “fynbos”, South Africa’s magnificent indigenous floral vegetation. Interesting bird species include the African Black Oystercatchers and Avocets as well as endemics such as the Cape Sugarbird and Protea Canary, as well as various Sunbirds. Guests may enjoy a picnic lunch here (otherwise at one of the restaurants along the coast).
The tour then continues to the tip of the Cape Peninsula, from where you can walk (or ride the funicular) to the lighthouse at Cape Point. From this vantage point, you will enjoy spectacular views of False Bay and the tumultuous meeting point of the Indian and Atlantic Oceans. You then proceed to the Cape of Good Hope, the most southwestern point of the African continent.
Leaving the reserve, you proceed along the False Bay coastline to Boulders Beach, home to the only penguins found on the continent of Africa, the African Jackass Penguin. You continue on through historic Simonstown, South African naval headquarters, and return to Cape Town over Boyes drive with views of the fishing village of Kalk Bay and the seaside towns of St James and Muizenberg.
At some point during the day, you will be transferred to a cable car, which will take you up Table Mountain (weather permitting). From the top of the mountain, you will enjoy spectacular views over the city of Cape Town, Table Bay, and the Cape Peninsula. If weather prevents the cable car from operating, your guide will take you up Signal Hill, from where you will also enjoy breath-taking views.
