Kawaza Basic School - Tafika Camp Community

Many of those staying at Tafika Camp in the south Luangwa, Zambia, will have visited Kawaza Basic School during their stay. In November, a localized storm blew through the area and removed the school's metal roof - just in time for the rainy season! Repairs are nearly complete thanks to the generosity of Tafika's guests and friends.

The government of Botswana officially banned hunting wild game for sport beginning January 2014. The action was taken by President Khama in response to growing concern about the sharp decline in wildlife populations subject to licensed hunting, a possible threat to both the conservation of Botswana's natural heritage as well as the long-term health of the tourism industry. Existing hunting zones will be converted into photographic safari areas.

River Club Elephant Protection - Victoria Falls Conservation

The River Club, Victoria Falls, Zambia, is assisting local resident Alli Shenton with an 8 year old elephant he found with a wire snare around its infected front leg. Unable to walk, the elephant could not procure food, resulting in a severe loss of condition. After several weeks of TLC the elephant is now putting weight on his foot and is beginning to become more self sufficient. It is hoped that he will soon have enough strength to re-join his herd.
