Important Update on Zambia Cash Requirements

7/25/2012

Zambia's new government is clamping down on the use of foreign currency in domestic transactions, and legislation has been enacted requiring all cash payments within the country to be made in Zambian Kwacha. The Kwacha cannot be purchased outside Zambia, but is available from ATM machines and at exchange bureaus at the country's two major airports (Livingstone and Lusaka). Our representatives at the airports will assist arriving guests with the exchange process.

Since Kwacha cannot be purchased in advance of arrival in Zambia, the only practical implication of the new legislation is that visitors to Zambia should expect a somewhat more protracted arrival process, to include currency exchange (with the assistance of our representatives).
