Nelson Mandela turned 94 years old on July 18 and was movingly serenaded from Nelson Mandela Square in Johannesburg as part of the celebration. Click here to view the video footage. Beginning in June 2008, the father of democratic South Africa has been celebrated each year on his birthday, with an official holiday dedicated to his life's work and that of his charitable organizations. July 18 is also recognized by the United Nations as Mandela Day, a global call to volunteer for good causes.
