Day 2

Today you will be collected from your hotel for a half day private tour of the City of Cape Town and Table Mountain, with entrance fees included.

You will be collected at your hotel and taken on a scenic drive through Cape Town  to Bo-Kaap, the Cape Malay quarter. Here, guests disembark and walk through Government Avenue, where the original settlers planted their vegetable gardens.  Today, the street is home to the South African Museum, Cultural History Museum, Houses of Parliament, National Gallery and St George’s Cathedral.  The walk continues through the city to the old Town Square that is bustling with market traders.

You will then be collected from the market and transported to the castle, the oldest building in South Africa, with its beautiful collection of old Cape paintings.  It is home to the Western Cape Command and the tour highlights the Grand Parade where Nelson Mandela spoke to Capetonians after his release from prison in 1990.

Next, the tour visits the moving District Six Museum, which highlights the horror of the forced removal of citizens from their homes in that district during the 1960’s. The museum contains a collection of memorabilia donated by former residents of the area and their descendants.

You will then be driven  to the lower cable station at Table Mountain.  Here you will have the opportunity to board the new Rotair cable car that takes under 5 minutes to reach the summit of the Mountain, 1036 meters above sea level. From the summit you will experience the spectacular views of the city and surrounds. If weather prevents the cable car from operating, your guide will take drive you up Signal Hill, from where you will also enjoy breath-taking views.

At the end of the tour, you will be returned to your hotel.

Day 3

This morning you will be collected from the Cape Grace Hotel for a full day private tour of the Cape Peninsula, with a whale watching excursion, lunch and entrance fees included.

Depart the city for Simonstown harbour to board the 32-foot catamaran, Whale Rider, for a 2-hour boat trip and the chance to see, from an ocean perspective, False Bay’s Whales, Dolphins and Great White Sharks.

Excellent sightings are possible as the boat is allowed within 50 metres of these giants of the deep. From June to November you can expect to see Southern Right Whales, which come to the Cape to mate and calve. Humpback, Bryde, Minke and Sei Whales are seen throughout the year, along with Bottlenose Dolphins.

Return to port for lunch at a seaside restaurant, and a visit to beautiful Boulders Beach for another “creature close-up”, this time with a colony of African Penguins.  Drive along the rocky coastline to the Cape of Good Hope section of the Table Mountain National Park for a chance to see herds of Bontebok and Cape Mountain Zebra (two of the Park’s endemic species), as well as Ostrich and Baboon.  Then climb (or ride the world’s first environmentally friendly funicular) to Cape Point Lighthouse, to capture the magical vistas of False Bay, and stop at the south-westernmost point of Africa: breathtaking Cape Point.

Head homewards, past the beaches of Noordhoek and over 600m high Chapman’s Peak Drive, one of the most spectacular coastal passes in the world, through the fishing village of Hout Bay and along the picturesque Atlantic seaboard.

Day 4

This morning you will be collected from the Cape Grace Hotel for a full day private tour of the Cape Winelands by bicycle, with lunch and entrance fees included.

Depart the city for the Cape Winelands nestled below the Boland Mountains, about a 50 minute drive from Cape Town. The Cape Winelands are some of the most beautiful in the world, with a heritage that lives on in beautifully preserved historic estates boasting a rich 400-year old winemaking tradition, producing some of the world’s most celebrated wines.

Upon arrival in Franschhoek, a small town nestled in the “Valley of the Huguenots,” where the French first settled in 1688, you will collect your hybrid bicycles for a leisurely ride through this charming country town with its lovely antique architecture and gardens. You will then meander out of town to explore the region’s famous wineries.

En route, you may choose to stop to enjoy the wines of any of Grand Provence, Rickety Bridge, Môreson or La Motte before returning to the village. For the stronger biker, a visit to L’Ormarins or Graham Beck wineries can be included. Lunch will be enjoyed a la carte at one of the valley’s many excellent restaurants.

After the tour you will be returned to your hotel.
