The Female Rangers of Great Plains

7/1/2022

The "Female Rangers Initiative" inspired by Great Plains Conservation is a tribute to and recognition of those women involved in conservation worldwide. Late last year, Great Plains put out a call for applications for female ranger positions, with a budget for 12. Within 24 hours, they received over 200 job applications in Botswana and Zimbabwe! These monitoring roles include bush patrols and early detection of poaching activities that are passed on to armed government teams. The first round of intake and training has begun and some will pass through to the second round. As more and more animals arrive in the private Sapi Reserve around Tembo Plains as a result of Project Rewild Zambezi,  more and more rangers will be needed to look after them, and females will be a priority hire.
