Classic Africa

Exciting Development

4/1/2008

Botswana's Department of Wildlife and National Parks has just awarded two private concessions in the northern sector of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, the first in this vast wilderness area. At around 20,000 square miles, the Central Kalahari is one of the largest reserves in the world. The northern sector of the reserve, around Deception Valley, becomes a verdant wildlife paradise after the first rains in December, attracting large herds of oryx, springbuck, and wildebeest. The grazers are followed by predators, and the area is famous for its legendary black maned Kalahari lions and some of the best cheetah viewing in Africa. We hope to visit the new camps shortly after their opening in December, and will report back in future editions of Classic Africa news.
