Zambia Reaches Level 1 Travel Advisory - Normal!

Congratulations to Zambia which, on October 19th, became the first country in "safari Africa" to reach the lowest level of Travel Advisory in the Department of State's classification system. Traditionally, the classification system has been used to grade travel risk based on factors such as war, terrorism, government instability, crime, etc., but the CDC's assessment of Covid-19 risks within a country has become a major determinant during the pandemic.
To place Zambia's classification in context, it was just one of seven countries in the world with a Level 1 Advisory on October 19th. By contrast, over 100 countries were categorized as Level 4 (the highest risk level). Kenya, Rwanda, and Zimbabwe were among only 15 countries at Level 2, and all other "safari Africa" countries were in Level 3, alongside countries such as Canada, the UK, and most of Western Europe. As cases continue to drop across the region, and vaccination accelerates, we look forward to more good news about safari countries dropping to the lowest risk levels.
