South Africa's rapidly accelerating vaccination program

In a major breakthrough for the continent, the Biovac Institute in Cape Town signed an agreement with Pfizer last week to manufacture their ground-breaking mRNA Covid-19 vaccine, starting in 2022, at an initial capacity of 100 million doses annually. Biovac becomes the second pharmaceutical company in South Africa licensed to produce Covid-19 vaccines, joining Aspen Pharmacare which is already manufacturing the Johnson & Johnson vaccine at a current capacity of 300 million doses per year.
