COVID-19 Rapid PCR Tests As African safari countries re-open to international travelers, almost all require arriving visitors to show negative COVID-19 test results to gain entry. Regulations differ somewhat by country (see entry requirements above), but they all mandate the more accurate PCR tests, and the test must be administered within a certain timeframe before arrival (anywhere from 72 hours to 14 days). Turnaround times at regular testing sites are often too long to meet the timing requirements, but a handful of options are available that will beat the tightest deadlines. The COVID Consultants and Pixel by Labcorp provide an online service with results guaranteed within 24 hours of your sample arriving at their labs; Pixel will either bill your insurance or secure public funding if your insurance doesn't cover the cost. Recently, Costco also introduced a self-administered (with video observation) PCR test guaranteeing results within 48 hours of your sample arriving at the lab. |
South African Plugs South African plugs are changing shape. The current plugs, which feature three large pins configured in a triangle, are giving way to a compact hexagonal three-pin design. This shape is based on the latest international standard, and accommodates the European-type two-pin plugs on cellphone chargers. However, American travelers will still require an adapter plug for their electronic devices. To learn more, click here. |
