A Delayed Migration
7/31/2018
Initially, it was thought that there might be an early migration across the Serengeti-Mara eco-system, but ample rains have led the herds to pause (last year they reached the Mara River in early June). This year we expect the large migratory herds to attempt river crossings throughout August, lasting well into September and October.
The Mara River is swollen and running in rapid torrents, making its perilous crossing by over 1.5 million wildebeest more dangerous than ever. Thousands of tons of energized herbivores making a desperate surge through the currents and crocodiles promises a dramatic spectacle.
Slowly, the herds are beginning to move, on their own schedule, toward a timeless challenge and perilous river crossing. Watch from Sayari Camp, Angama Mara, Mara Plains Camp and Cottar's 1920's Safari Camp.
