Children in the Wilderness (CITW) is furthering its goal to facilitate sustainable conservation through leadership development and education of rural children in Africa with its new program in Rwanda!

Following the opening of Wilderness Safaris' innovative Bisate Lodge, the community of Bisate has been involved in the restoration of this delicate ecosystem through a pioneering reforestation program, which has seen over 20,000 indigenous trees planted around the Bisate site, to date. The CITW program aims to provide a specialized focus on environmental education for the children of Bisate village who will one day become the decision makers and conservation leaders of the community.

At the end of March, Bisate Primary School hosted a two-day CITW Eco-Mentor training for 30 enthusiastic teachers. They have already begun working on garden projects at Bisate Primary School and will be unrolling the CITW lesson plan shortly. The school will also hold Eco-Club meetings weekly, overseen by nine teachers and a team of staff from Bisate Lodge.

Long term, Bisate Lodge is looking forward to working with the local students and teachers to establish important environmental projects, organize environmental outings and host the Eco-Club members for an annual camp at the lodge.
