Sighting of the Quarter - Meet Musira

8/18/2017

In January Governors Camp guide Mandila spotted a young elephant calf that appeared to be in trouble. It was lying under a tree and had not moved for 3 hours. The Governor's team alerted the Narok County Council Park Rangers and the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, which mobilized quickly to rescue the calf and fly him to Nairobi where he joined the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust orphanage.

We have been waiting to tell his story as he was severely de-hydrated and struggled when he first arrived at the orphanage and it was uncertain as to whether or not he would make it. However, we are delighted to report that the team at DSWT has done a magnificent job looking after him and he is now thriving at the orphanage and ready for adoption. He will spend the next few years being nurtured by his new elephant family before he is transferred to Tsavo to eventually re-join the wild herds.

The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust orphanage can be visited during a full day stay in Nairobi.
