Have you ever heard of Joseph L. Popp? Neither had we – until Classic Africa client and friend Dennis C. informed us. He was reading a book on computer ransomware and learned that Popp "invented" the concept in the 1980's while working in the Maasai Mara. He was a Harvard educated primatologist who needed to supplement his income. While we obviously condemn his invention, the story is interesting and  you can read more about Popp here:
