Kwara Camp

Kwara Camp is located under the shade of an ancient ebony forest on the banks of a beautiful lagoon, within the 432,000 acre Kwara Private Reserve in the Okavango Delta. Adjoining the Moremi Game Reserve, Kwara offers a rare combination of outstanding widlife-viewing and year-round water activities. This very-comfortable "classic" camp is locally owned and managed, grounding it in Motswana culture and further enhancing its sense of authenticity.

  The vast Kwara Private Reserve features permanent channels, seasonal floodplains, and extensive savanna bushveld, supporting a wide array of safari activities and excellent wildlife diversity. With wide open grasslands as well as acacia woodlands, Kwara is one of only a handful of concessions where one has a reasonable chance of seeing both cheetah and leopards, and the immense size of the Kwara Reserve makes it a favorite for highly-endangered wild dogs. General plains game ogccurs in abundance, and all of the Delta's other "big game" species are well represented.

 Activities are perhaps Kwara's greatest strength. In addition to day and night game-drives, guests can enjoy walking and boating safaris, catch-and-release fishing, and mekoro (dug out canoe) excursions. Water activities are offered year-round, making Kwara one of the few true land-water combination camps in the Delta. Kwara is also unique in that game-drives are accompanied by both a guide and a tracker, providing two sets of expert eyes for finding and tacking wildlife.

 The décor of Kwara pays homage to the authentic African style of yesteryear, with comfortable campaign-style furnishings, hardwoods, leather and brass throughout. The main area of the camp consists of a dining area, sitting room, bar and well-stocked library. There are two small plunge pool areas at each end of the camp, each with its own small bar and chaise lounges for guests to enjoy an afternoon siesta. Descending from the main area to the lagoon is a sandy clearing with a fire pit encircled by camp chairs, where coffee is served in the mornings and cocktails in the evenings, surrounded by the sounds of the African night.

 Accommodation is in nine attractive canvas tented rooms with sitting areas, bedrooms and en suite bathrooms Each tent has a spacious deck overlooking the lagoon, an en suite bathroom with both indoor and outdoor showers and an elegant soaking tub – all of which have views out to the floodplains. There are ceiling fans and mosquito nets to ensure guest comfort. Kwara offers an adult-only digital detox experience (no Wi-Fi or cell phone connectivity) allowing our guests to quietly enjoy and embrace the natural setting of the camp and its wildlife.

CONSERVATION DIMENSION

Kwara Camp utilizes leading technology in its facilities to maintain a minimal environmental impact. The camp is strategically constructed to rely on solar energy. Waste water is thoroughly treated before being returned to the ground to ensure no harmful chemicals or waste by-products are transferred into the environment. Kwara also enables staff development opportunities and supports Lady Khama Charitable Trust, which reaches out to vulnerable children and women in Botswana. The company is a member of Pack for a Purpose, an initiative that allows travelers to make a lasting impact in the local community by transporting supplies for the Mummy's Angels project.
