Little Kulala Reopens

11/25/2020

As the countries of “safari Africa” continue to cautiously open their borders, alongside strict safety protocols, it is increasingly clear that many top safari lodges have used the downtime over the past few months to reinvigorate and refresh their offerings – the reopening of Little Kulala in Namibia is another case in point.

With an enviable location adjacent to the giant Mars-red dunes of Sossusvlei, and a private entrance into the Park, Little Kulala is one of Namibia’s most sought-after lodges. The latest iteration of the lodge includes refurbishments that improve the guest experience and reduce environmental impact. The lodge’s energy needs are now met 100% by solar energy coupled with a sophisticated inverter system, and raised walkways connect the main lodge with each guest chalet, further reducing the lodge’s footprint.

Each air-conditioned chalet now boasts even more space, with a rooftop patio for private dining, and an expansive deck with plunge pool and shaded daybed that can be rolled out for sleeping under the stars. A cool, sophisticated décor predominates, with greys and muted pinks celebrating the palette of the surrounding Namib Desert.

As the world slowly starts to heal itself from the ravages of the pandemic in the coming year, wellness, rejuvenation, and balance are emerging as key elements of the safari experience across Africa. Little Kulala’s chefs have created a new menu focused on farm to table dining and indigenous ingredients, and the Little Kulala Spa has developed a range of treatment options based on the local Tsamma Melon.

Of course, the primary reason to stay at Little Kulala is to see and explore the spectacular beauty of the oldest desert on earth, and the lodge continues to offer a range of immersive activities to accomplish this, including nature drives into Sossusvlei and Deadvlei with the opportunity to climb some of the world’s highest dunes, hot air ballooning, and hiking, mountain-biking, and quad-biking on the Kulala Private Reserve.
