Honoring David Rattray

On the 15th of April 2008, Dr. Peter Rattray received an honorary Doctorate from the University of KwaZulu Natal on behalf of his son, David Rattray. Before his tragic death in January 2007, David Rattray achieved an international reputation for his battlefield tours from Fugitive's Drift Lodge in KwaZulu Natal, and overseas lectures. The team he put in place now continues this great tradition, entertaining guests with moving, passionate and detailed presentations on South Africa's fascinating and often turbulent history.

Dr. Rattray said the degree was one of the best tributes to a man "who loved South Africa unreservedly." On presenting the honorary degree, Vice-Chancellor Dasarath Chetty said David Rattray had been a brilliant and extraordinary orator who shared his deep love and passion for the environment, Zulu culture and the country through his work. "The University of KwaZulu Natal is privileged and takes immense pride in honoring this unique individual, whose work symbolized the very essence of African scholarship."

A visit to Fugitive's Drift Lodge provides an unforgettable exploration of the South African experience, past and present. You can also order David Rattray's famous audio series "Day of the Dead Moon" on CD on-line.
