World's First Freddie Mercury Museum

1/1/2020

The first ever Museum dedicated to the world music legend Freddie Mercury of the band Queen, has been opened on the island of Zanzibar in the heart of Stone Town. The museum was officially inaugurated to commemorate the 28th anniversary of the passing of the beloved rock music legend, who was a Zanzibar native.

The Freddie Mercury Museum is partnered with Queen Productions Ltd. in the United Kingdom, which has loaned an exclusive picture gallery of Freddie Mercury throughout different stages in his life and musical career.

This project aims to showcase a detailed history of the of the musician (nee Farrokh Bulsara), his roots in the Zoroastrian tradition, his childhood and upbringing in Zanzibar, followed by his schooling in Panchgani, India, and then the his journey to becoming a rock star.

Guests staying at Elewana Kilindi Zanzibar can conveniently visit the museum, which is open daily from 10 am to 6 pm. The hotel has its own connection to music history in that it is housed in a building originally designed for Benny Andersson - one of the members of the 1970's pop group ABBA.

Set in a picturesque tropical garden with a secluded beachfront, its luxurious Pavilion Suites embrace wide-arched glassless windows affording spectacular views over the Indian Ocean. Each villa boasts a private plunge pool and is tended to by a dedicated Guest Ambassador. Kilindi's 'open-to-nature' approach crafts a private, intimate and "barefoot luxury" experience.
