In partnership with the Botswana Government, Wilderness Safaris is sponsoring a black rhino translocation to Botswana as part of their 13-year rhino conservation project. A small group of critically-endangered black rhino will be transported from South Africa to a safe area in Botswana (yet to be disclosed) where they can live and breed in safety.
The boxing fever continues as a means for raising funds for important southern African causes. You might remember the “rumble in the fynbos” between our friends at Wilderness Safaris featured in Classic Africa’s newsletter Volume 2, 2013. In similar spirit, The Charge is set to take place on May 15th and features an enthusiastic conservationist, Shaun Davy, from Anabezi Lodge in Zambia. A beneficiary will be Conservation Lower Zambezi, which focuses on wildlife protection through anti-poaching patrol deployments, environmental education and supporting local community development projects – especially human-wildlife conflict mitigation.
A rare and special occurance took place in February at
Serra Cafema in northern
Namibia when Himba from all the surrounding villages gathered together in camp on the 13th of February to register for Namibia’s next political election. The Electoral Commission Team flew into camp by helicopter and spent two days ensuring that any person wishing to vote was registered and given an electoral card. A few lucky guests staying at Serra Cafema witnessed the proceedings.
