Since 2011 the David Rattray Memorial Trust has taken part in England's Guardian Newspaper International Development Journalism Competition, in which essayists visit an area for research and inspiration and their work is then published in the Guardian. Last years' finalist was Kati Whitaker who visited rural Kwa-Zulu Natal to research the role of education in alleviating poverty. To read her published articles click here. Also newsworthy, the definitive Guide Book to the Anglo Zulu War written by David Rattray and Adrian Greaves has been republished and will be available from Fugitive's Drift Lodge, where the late David Rattray lived and worked.

Project Luangwa is offering a one-to-one educational sponsorship program whereby a benefactor may select a specific child they wish to sponsor on the project's website sponsorship page. Throughout the year the sponsor will receive school reports and letters from the child via e-mail and any return correspondence will be delivered to the student. This year there are sponsors in place for about 100 children.
