Rhino Month
10/28/2012
September was declared Rhino Month in South Africa in an effort to raise awareness of the specie's plight after losing over 300 animals to illegal poaching this year alone! In that spirit, &Beyond earmarked six white rhino to be translocated from Phinda Private Game Reserve in South Africa to Botswana's Okavango Delta, proven to be a successful rhino relocation habitat as it boasts an excellent security and monitoring system to protect the rhinos. The translocation process is set to begin in February 2013. From October 2012, game scouts from Botswana will travel to Phinda to undergo intensive tracking and monitoring training. Capture and release bomas (enclosures) will be built in South Africa and Botswana, and various conservation initiatives will be established to ensure that the six carefully selected rhino arrive at their new home safely.
