Baraza Resort and Spa

Baraza Resort & Spa is located along the Bwejuu – Paje beach that was named as one of the top beaches in the world by Conde Nast Traveler magazine.

This grand fully inclusive resort evokes the heritage of Zanzibar, dating back to the era of the Sultans through a fusion of Arabic, African and Indian design.  Low, white buildings, with wide verandahs and barazas (built-in banquettes) from which the resort takes its name, are set around a vast swimming pool nestled into 170 acres of bougainvillaea, rustling palms, frangipani and jasmine – reminiscent of Oman. Swahili arches, intricate carvings, beautiful antiques, handmade furniture, brass and wood ceiling fans, and delicately wrought brass lanterns are incorporated to create a stunning exotic ambience.

Each of Baraza’s 30 spacious villas is custom designed using rich textiles, marble, copper and gleaming dark woods, with a private terrace and plunge pool. Large bathrooms with freestanding tubs, separate showers, luxury fittings and amenities offer a pampering oasis.

Breakfast is served at the resort’s open-air restaurant, the Livingstone Terrace. The Ocean Lounge Bar & Restaurant offers buffet-style lunches from its tandoor oven, salad bar, pizza oven or daily chef’s special menu, as well as afternoon tea. Dinner is either al fresco at the Livingstone Terrace or in the impressive Sultan’s Dining Room. The menu is designed to feature fresh island produce, inspired by Arabic, Indian, Persian, Asian and Swahili flavors showcasing the local Spices for which the island is famous.

The Frangipani Spa, enhanced by candle light and spice scented aromas, features its own lap pool with underwater music, indoor and outdoor relaxation rooms, a yoga center, fitness center and tennis court. Learn to speak Swahili under a palm tree, or try your hand at cooking traditional food with the resort’s celebrated chefs.

The Rising Sun Dive Center is the only PADI 5* Gold Palm and National Geographic Dive Center in Zanzibar and accepts divers from beginner to professional, offering a wide variety of diving experiences.  The Water Club offers expert instruction in Kite surfing, and sailing, as well as snorkeling safaris to the nearby lagoon.

A wide variety of excursions and day trips such as the exotic spice and historic Stone Town tours, are also available.
