WHALE ROCK LODGE

The attractive white-washed thatch house

The stylish and comfortable interior

Situated in the suburb of Westcliff, within sight and smell of the sea and sound of the whales, this delightful thatched lodge offers charming accommodation in the popular seaside town of Hermanus. Close to the New Harbour and the start of the famous cliff path, Whale Rock is a very comfortable lodge with spacious en suite bedrooms. A full buffet breakfast is served overlooking the pool and gardens, and for dinner Hermanus offers a wide choide of restaurants.

This is how close the whales come!

Hermanus has gained an international reputation through its wonderful location overlooking the spectacular Walker Bay. Every year between July and December, roughly 150 Southern Right Whales travel from Antartica to Walker Bay, where they breed and give birth. These behemoths of the deep sea often come as close as 30 feet to the rocks and cliffs overlooking Walker Bay, providing the best land-based whale watching in the world.

Hermanus is also surrounded by beautiful Fynbos-rich mountains, with wonderful hiking trails and many different species of plants and birds. Right in front of Hermanus are numerous swimming beaches, and Walker Bay boasts 20 miles of unspoilt sun-bleached beach for long, romantic walks. The town has a quaint museum, and various craft markets.
