| Swakopmund is an anomaly. In the first place, it seems absurd that there should be a town at all along this desolate portion of the Skeleton Coast, where ocean meets the desert in an abrupt dead-end. That the settlement should resemble nothing so much as a nineteenth century Bavarian town almost requires a suspension of disbelief, but that is Swakopmund. Apart from the interesting architecture and history of the town itself, the incredible wealth of marine life in nearby Walvis Bay makes this a very noteworthy stop-over for any visitor to Namibia.
