THE LODGE AT THE ANCIENT CITY

The Lodge at the Ancient City is a wonderful stone creation which fits perfectly into its mysterious cultural landscape, overlooking Great Zimbabwe, the largest ancient stone structure in sub-Saharan Africa.

The Lodge incorporates natural elements of the surroundings

The lodge has been built on and around a granite outcrop and has integrated existing trees and boulders into its soaring architecture. There are only eighteen spacious dry stone wall and thatch chalets. All have en suite facilities, large comfortable beds, and tall heavy wooden doors that are reminiscent of ancient palaces. The common area, comprising a living room, bar, dining room, swimming pool and several viewing decks, is set high upon its rocky perch, affording exceptional vistas.

The Lodge enjoys an unrivalled view onto the Great Enclosure

The Lodge at the Ancient City is the perfect place from where to explore Great Zimbabwe. Expert guides escort guests on detailed trips through the ancient capital. The origins, architecture, trading routes, social and religious practices and the reasons for the decline of the city are all discussed. Scenic drives and walks around the nearby Lake Mutirikwi and into the adjacent tribal area are also available. The northeastern shores of the lake are a National Park and boating trips in search of white rhinoceros, hippo, crocodile and various antelope and bird species can also be booked.
