KULEFU TENTED CAMP

The spectacular setting

Kulefu means "The Faraway Place", a title befitting the most remote camp in one of Zambia's wildest and most scenic National Parks. Kulefu seems a universe away from the clamor of 'the real world', a place of adventure, where nature reigns supreme and man is but a transient visitor.

On game-drive along the river banks

The Lower Zambezi National Park exists as a corridor of fertile land between the Zambian escarpment (the tail end of Africa's famous rift valley) and the mighty Zambezi River. Good volumes of big game are contained within these two natural barriers, including lion, leopard, elephant, and buffalo, as well as an array of plains game and an impressive variety of birdlife. The Zambezi itself teems with hippo and crocodile.

Canoeing on the River

Kulefu camp is located in probably the most game-rich sector of the Park and offers a diversity of activities by which to explore the area and discover the wildlife. Game-drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles as well as spotlit nightdrives are standard. Boat cruises down the Zambezi further enhance the photographic opportunities. For those seeking a little more adventure and a more 'interactive' safari experience, canoeing and walking excursions with a professional guide are a highlight.

Relax on the banks of the Zambezi

Kulefu enjoys an idyllic location on the banks of a permanent channel in the Zambezi River, beneath the deep shade of mature riverine trees. Armchair game viewing is a strength of Kulefu, and every corner of camp has been designed to take advantage of spectacular views across the meandering Zambezi and the Mapata Escarpment. Herds of buffalo, elephant, and antelope are frequently seen on the grassy islands in front of camp.

Fireside entertainment

In keeping with the remoteness and overwhelming beauty of the setting, the style and ambience at Kulefu reflect understated luxury and elegance. Whether cooling off in the plunge pool, relaxing at the 'riverside' lounge, or enjoying a cocktail at the bar, one's focus is never distracted from the Zambezi and its wildlife. After a delicious three course meal lit by candles and paraffin lanterns, retire with a brandy to the unique firepit carved into the banks of the River, and reflect on the day's adventure.

Simple yet comfortable rooms

Accommodation is comprised of just eight luxurious safari tents on raised teak platforms, each with a 'wrap around' view of the Zambezi River. The rooms are spacious and airy, featuring real beds, an indoor lounge area, a shaded verandah, and full en-suite facilities - indulging in a bubble bath while soaking in the full splendor of the Zambezi Valley is an experience not soon to be forgotten.

A wild dog comes to drink

Kulefu is a stylish tented camp offering a comfortable and authentic safari experience in one of Zambia's most scenic and game-rich wildlife areas. The camp offers every imaginable comfort for such a remote location without sacrificing the ecological ethic - electrical lighting and hot water systems, for example, are solar and battery powered. The primary attractions here are the majestic landscape and the diversity of activities by which to experience the area's bountiful wildlife. Adventure is the watchword in this 'Faraway Place'.
