DE WATERKANT LODGE

De Waterkant is a collection of charming historic properties owned by Charles Roux, a sixteenth generation South African with a talent for tasteful renovation and restoration. The buildings are all located along a charming oak-lined avenue, and were originally owned by British Navel Officers stationed at the Cape in the eighteenth century. Over the years they were altered significantly by subsequent owners, and many fell into a serious state of disrepair. The whole area is now in the process of 'gentrification', and these wonderful old houses have been repaired to their former elegance.

The lovely neighborhood with views of Table Mountain

De Waterkant consists of a main house and an annexe, where guests are accommodated on a bed and breakfast basis, and a number of self-catering "cottages" (in effect, self-contained houses). All are within easy walking distance of good restaurants, the city centre, and the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. Set on the slopes of Signal Hill, they boast fabulous views over Cape Town, the harbour, and Table Mountain. The decor at de Waterkant is an eclectic mix of old and new. An avid antiques collector, Charles owns some extraordinary pieces, and skilfully European classics with old Cape antiques.

De Waterkant is full of character and charm, and represents one of Cape Town's best value for money properties. It is a stylish base from which guests are easily able to explore all of Cape Town's highlights, with guidance and advice from a charismatic host who is passionate about history, South Africa, and the many wonders of Cape Town.
