Babanango Valley Lodge is situated on an 8,000 acre bushveld Natural Heritage site of outstanding beauty. Owned and run by John and Meryn Turner, the lodge combines attentive personal service with luxury and charm. Meryn has decorated the en suite rooms in a wonderfully comfortable county style. Candlelight dinners are table d'hôte. The lounge houses a small library, with a collection of books pertaining to the region for guests' enjoyment.
Babanango born and raised, John has grown up among the Zulus and knows Zululand intimately; he holds a PhD, and boasts a remarkable knowledge of Zulu history and the Anglo-Zulu war of 1879. He personally guides guests on tours of the famous nearby battlefields of Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift. Other activities at the lodge include long walks and bird-watching on the estate. Babanango was the birth place of the great Zulu leader Dingaan, and the area is rich in Zulu culture and history.
