Community Partnership in Damaraland - Luxury Namibia SafarisA recent meeting between the Doro !Nawas Camp and representatives of the Doro !Nawas Conservancy in Damaraland, Namibia, reaffirmed their mutually beneficial relationship. Roughly 500 community members act as landlords of the 1,006,460 acre Doro !Nawas Conservancy. The Conservancy not only receives a percentage of revenue from Doro !Nawas Camp but is also an equity shareholder in the lodge. The venture is a pioneering project that is mutually beneficial for the camp, conservancy and community. The original aims of the joint venture - to create a high-income, low-impact tourism camp for sustainable tourism; to train members of the local community in all aspects of tourism; to create immediate employment in a previously low-employment area; to uplift the local area financially and socially; and to allow local wildlife numbers to increase and stabilize - continue to guide the Doro !Nawas Conservancy and Doro !Nawas Camp as they enter into new agreements and forge an even stronger partnership for positive development in the region.
