Migration Routes Safari
To optimize exploration, a variety of transport modes is used: private charter flights (dotted lines on adjacent map), game-drive transfers (solid lines on map), and exclusive combination mokoro-boat-land transfers provide both a birds-eye view and an in-depth experience of the contrasting landscapes of Botswana. A unique feature that sets this safari apart from the competition is that the majority of the safari is conducted on private concessions, well away from the high volume areas of National Parks. Night-drives and sensitive off-road driving is allowed in certain areas. A maximum of eight guests are accommodated on this fully serviced safari, which is accompanied by a guide and camp staff. Day 1: Toka Leya Camp (or River Club), Victoria FallsAfter arrival in Livingstone you will be met by a representative and transferred directly to a guided tour of Victoria Falls, one of the seven Natural Wonders of the World. At over a mile wide and 350 feet deep, it is the largest sheet of falling water on earth. The evening will be spent at either Toka Leya Camp or The River Club on the upper Zambezi River.
Day 2, 3 & 4: Chobe River and Linyanti Adventurer CampAfter a full breakfast, we depart Zambia and enter the Chobe National Park in Botswana by way of the Kazungula crossing, a point where the four countries of Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Namibia meet. The Chobe is famous for its vast herds of elephants and unique species such as the elusive puku and Chobe bushbuck that move to the river over the midday period. We enjoy a Chobe River boat cruise (and lunch) on a catamaran-style shaded boat, followed by a vehicle transfer to the Linyanti Reserve. The drive takes us through Chobe National Park, where there are more game viewing opportunities, from predators to the elusive sable antelope. After this wildlife portion of the drive we journey through some of the remote villages of northern Botswana, getting a rare glimpse of the traditional way of life of the people of this land, all explained by the guide.
The Linyanti is an area of great biological diversity, incorporating the Linyanti River, marshes, and floodplains, as well as the dry Savuti Channel, acacia bushveld habitat, and extensive mopane forest. Herbivores and predators gravitate back and forth according to season between the Linyanti and the Savuti Marshes, and our exact itinerary differs seasonally to take advantage of these movement patterns. On one of our days in the area we depart on an early morning activity through the private Linyanti Reserve, taking in the changing landscapes, from riverine to savannah habitats. We enjoy lunch on a shaded deck, with a sweeping view of the Linyanti River. After a siesta in hammocks, we enjoy a leisurely canoe trip (depending on hippos!) before returning to camp in the early evening.
Days 5, 6 & 7 : Khwai Adventurer Camp - North-eastern Okavango Deltaepart by light aircraft to Khwai Adventurer Camp, located on a private concession adjoining the Moremi Game Reserve. The Khwai Concession is one of the most diverse areas in northern Botswana, and features a wide range of exciting wildlife habitats from forests and floodplains, to wetlands and grasslands.
Days 8 & 9: Xigera Mokoro Trail - Okavango DeltaToday we fly by light aircraft to the watery paradise of the private Xigera concession, deep within the permanent Delta in the Moremi Game Reserve. There is no better way to experience the beauty and diversity of the Okavango than to travel through it by mokoro, walking and camping out along the way in our Adventurer Camps.
Day 10: Transfer to Maun AirportBid farewell to the adventure as we transfer by light aircraft to Maun Airport.
